How It Works: A Simple Breakdown
The word list is divided into three key columns:
- Word – The new vocabulary word you're learning.
- Meaning – The definition or explanation of the word.
- Translation – The equivalent of the word in your native language.
That's the basic structure, but the real magic happens with the hide/show features.
Using the Hide/Show Features
One of the coolest aspects of the tool is that you can hide certain columns and quiz yourself:
- Hide the meanings: Test yourself on what each word means.
- Hide the translations: Push yourself to recall the meaning in English only.
- Hide the words: Look at the meanings or translations and try to remember the word itself.
This is called active recall—a powerful technique for strengthening memory. When you struggle to remember something and finally get it right, your brain builds stronger connections. It's like exercising your memory muscles!
Advice #1: Add useful expressions to your list: these include sentences that may differ from your typical speaking style, as you might find in textbooks, YouTube videos, and other sources. This will help you not only expand your vocabulary but also improve your phrasing. So look for sentences that may sound different from how you usually speak!
Advice #2: Add synthetic review of grammar points like formation and use of tenses, the passive voice construction, the use of relative pronouns, .... that you find in your text books, and other resources. This will help you expand and improve your phrasing and your fluency. Understanding grammar concepts is essential for improving your language skills. By familiarizing yourself with these concepts, you can improve your phrasing skills and overall fluency. A strong grasp of grammar allows for clearer communication, helps you construct more complex sentences, and ensures that your writing is both varied and engaging.
